Nigerian footballer Oladipupo Osineye has threatened to sue Spain-based Sevilla Football Club over its failure to honour a tryout promise made in 2025.
Osineye, known as @TheRealOlaGreat on X disclosed his plans while sharing a Demand For Performance letter addressed to Sevilla FC.
Recall that on Jan. 20, 2025, Osineye asked the Sevilla FC Academy handle on X how many reposts would earn him a tryout with the club. In response, the club replied that a hundred thousand repost would earn him the tryout.
Following this, the footballer reposted the club’s reply and hit over 100,000 reposts. His lawyers stated that his actions generated over fifteen million views and a million followership for the club.
Consequently, the club reportedly acknowledged the performance and exchanged a series of emails. The conversations reportedly included the issue of visa and travel plans, amongst others.
However, the player revealed that the club has refused to perform its obligation since then. He added that they have also shown no concrete plans to facilitate his tryout in Spain or cooperate with him.
The letter furthered that;
Sir, there is a no doubt on the existence of a binding contract between our client and the Club; the expression of intent and consent two key components of inferring electronic contracts) and the basic elements of contract which include offer, acceptance and consideration are obviously highlighted in the circumstances of this case.
Osineye’s lawyers added that he has rejected advances from other football clubs due to Sevilla’s binding commitment. As such, they urged Sevilla to resolve the issue amicably or face civil actions from the footballer.
