A Nigerian woman has garnered widespread reactions on social media after she claimed that many men pursue marriage mainly for unpaid domestic labor, sex, cooking, and childbearing.
In the viral clip, the woman argued that marriage often benefits men by providing services traditionally expected from wives, including household chores, meal preparation, sexual access, and raising children.
Echoing her earlier remarks, she argued that many men feel entitled to these services even when both spouses work to earn a living, claiming that women are still expected to function as unpaid domestic staff alongside their careers.
Her comments quickly sparked debate online, with many users criticizing the statement as an unfair generalization about men and marriage. Others defended her remarks, saying they reflected the lived experiences of many women who carry a disproportionate share of domestic responsibilities in marriage.
Supporters of the woman’s argument said the discussion highlights the need for more balanced partnerships.

While stressing that describing marriage as a source of “free labor” overlooks the significant financial and lifelong responsibilities many men shoulder, furthermore recounting on how millions of women still choose marriage suggests the reality is more complex than the woman’s claim.

“So mortgages, school fees, rent, insurance, and lifelong responsibility all count as ‘free’ now?
No one is forcing anyone to get married. The fact that millions of women still want marriage suggests reality is more complicated than your take”
Another user wrote:
“Won’t sensible women shut these modern day Jezebels down.. Children belong more to their mother than their father. What have I done for my dad? Literally nothing.”
However, The controversy has reignited conversations about traditional gender roles in Nigeria, particularly expectations around cooking, childcare, financial provision, and household labor.
As reactions continue to spread across social media platforms, the clip has become part of a broader public conversation about equality, responsibility, and expectations within modern Nigerian marriages.
