The Osun State Government has deposed Oba Gbenga Joseph Oloyede of his title Apetumodu of Ipetumodu following his fraud conviction in the United States.
Daily Post, citing a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment Kolapo Alimi, reported that the decision followed due consultation, legal review, and approval by the State Executive Council.
Alimi disclosed that the removal of the Ipetumodu king aligns with state’s chieftaincy laws alongside other laws guiding traditional institutions. The government stressed that the King was convicted in the United States over offences related to COVID-19 fraud and is currently serving a prison sentence.
Following this, the government has withdrawn all instruments of authority previously issued to the King. They have also declared his throne vacant pending further processes.
The Ipetumodu King’s removal comes roughly a year after he was convicted for COVID-19 fraud.
