Patients at Jibu General Hospital in Wukari, Taraba State, are reportedly being treated on mats laid on the floor of the facility amid concerns over poor infrastructure and inadequate medical equipment.

The development has sparked concerns over the condition of public healthcare facilities in the state, particularly in Wukari Local Government Area, the home local government of Governor Agbu Kefas. The report also highlights an apparent contrast between government spending on infrastructure projects and healthcare funding.
According to a report by Sahara Reporters, the state government recently approved between ₦80 billion and ₦86 billion for a flyover and road projects in Wukari.
Meanwhile, the state’s healthcare spending has reportedly remained low. The Primary Health Care Agency used only ₦139 million out of its ₦2.8 billion allocation in 2025, while a ₦2.6 billion allocation for 2026 reportedly remains largely unutilised. The situation has generated criticism from residents and Nigerians online, with calls for the government to prioritise healthcare infrastructure and improve conditions for patients.
Concerns have also emerged over the health risks associated with treating patients on floors, particularly in overcrowded or poorly equipped facilities.
The reported situation has renewed debate over the government’s spending priorities and the need to channel more resources toward improving primary healthcare services across Taraba State.
