The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly detained a group of hunters following a successful rescue operation involving kidnapped victims in Komu, Oyo State.
According to a video circulating online, the hunters launched the rescue mission after receiving intelligence from residents about the activities of suspected kidnappers in the area. The operation reportedly led to a confrontation between the hunters and the kidnappers, resulting in the rescue of the victims.
During the exchange, the hunters were said to have run low on ammunition. To reinforce the rescue effort and ensure the safety of those involved, some members of the group were reportedly dispatched to the main town to obtain additional ammunition.
However, the police allegedly intercepted and arrested those transporting the ammunition, despite the hunters’ reported role in rescuing the victims. The detained individuals were subsequently transferred to Ibadan.
The arrests have since sparked widespread criticism from residents, activists, and social media users. Community leaders and elders are reportedly appealing to the authorities for the immediate release of the hunters, arguing that they acted in self-defence and in the interest of protecting their community.
As of the time of reporting, the Oyo State Police Command has not issued a separate official statement regarding the reported detention and transfer of the Komu hunters.
