The sponsor of the three Nigerian students who represented the country at the Rome STEM Olympiad, Alex Onyia, has announced their successful performance.
Alex made this known via his X account celebrating the achievement with the declaration, “We came to Rome and conquered.”
He wrote:
“The 3 Wise Men from the East. They came to Rome and conquered. Nigeria will be great again once we declare a state of emergency in education.”
According to Onyia, all three Nigerian students won gold medals in their respective categories, emerging as world champions at the International STEM Olympiad.
Onyedikachi Egejurum won gold after emerging as the world’s best in the Primary Mathematics category. Chimdiebube Onwubiko also claimed a gold medal, while Don Anele Munachimso secured gold to emerge as the world’s best in his category (science). Munachimso who had previously distinguished himself as Nigeria’s top-performing student in Chemistry in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).
Reflecting on the competition, Onyedikachi Egejurum admitted the experience began on an uncertain note, as he was unsure of the outcome.
He said:
“It went well, I’m happy at the end. Although at the beginning it was kind of rough. I did not cry, I was just sad but at the ending I came victorious and brought to Gold medal to Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, Onyia also announced that his organisation, Educare, received a special recognition award from the International STEM Olympiad in Rome.
Celebrating the honour, he reaffirmed Educare’s commitment to developing innovative technology that transforms education while supporting Nigerian children to excel on the global stage.
“Educare received this special recognition from the International STEM Olympiad, Rome. We will continue to build the right technology that powers education and also supports our children to shine on global stages.” he stated.
