Ubi Franklin Opens Up on Painful Divorce, Depression, and Embracing Peace After Heartbreak

Nigerian music executive Ubi Franklin has opened up about the emotional toll of his failed marriage to actress Lilian Esoro, revealing that he battled severe depression and experienced suicidal thoughts after their separation.

According to Franklin, there were early signs that the relationship was facing challenges. He claimed that Esoro did not attend their engagement dinner, a moment he said left him disappointed before they eventually proceeded with the wedding. He also recalled that after the marriage ended, she reportedly left behind her wedding ring, something he described as symbolic of the relationship’s final breakdown.

Ubi Franklin revealed that the divorce had a devastating impact on his mental health. He stated that he fell into severe depression and made several attempts to end his life during that period. Recounting one of the most difficult moments, he said he drove toward Lagos’ Third Mainland Bridge intending to take his own life, but his cousin, Omini, intervened and prevented the tragedy.

Despite the difficult experience, Franklin noted that he and Esoro have since built a peaceful co-parenting relationship for the sake of their son, choosing to avoid public conflict.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Franklin further urged people dealing with heartbreak or divorce not to let the end of a relationship destroy their lives. He explained every failed relationship carries lessons that can help a person grow, adding that moving forward with forgiveness and maturity is healthier than holding onto resentment.
