The Ghanaian Government’s recent engagement with South Africa’s ambassador to the country has drawn mixed reactions, including lamentations from Nigerians over their government’s purported silence.
On April 23, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa met with acting South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Thando Dalamba.
The minister revealed that he conveyed Ghana’s strong condemnation of xenophobic attacks of Ghanaians and other nationals in South Africa.
He added that;
We are urging South African authorities to take decisive action in protecting the human rights and dignity of our nationals and all Africans.
The Ghanaian minister also added that the country expects that the promised investigations will be expedited and all perpetrators punished adequately.
In response, Nigerians have taken to the post to lament over what they describe as their government’s lack of proactivity.
Ovie said;
Ghana is already taking steps to combat Xenophobia in S.A. What is the Nigerian govt doing? Are they even aware? Do they care?
UnkleAyo stated that;
A certain country of particular concern still can’t account for 400 women and children. It’s been 3 days.
