Nigerians have continued in their social media onslaught against Moniepoint CEO Tosin Eniolorunda over his recent statement regarding job seekers’ unemployability.
A Nigerian woman in a viral video has echoed existing arguments that some of the reasons for the low turnout in job applications for companies like Moniepoint is usually due to low salaries.
The woman argued that most organizations want experienced candidates, while offering poor pay structures. According to her, most organizations undervalue the experienced workers they are looking for.
“I have to say the owner of Moniepoint is stating BS. Big BS. You know why? There is a problem with the Nigerian employer in the Nigerian system. You don’t want to pay. You want skillful workers and you don’t want to pay,” she said.
Sharing her story, she noted that her first corporate opportunity came from a belief her employer had in her. That is, the employer focused on her potential and skills rather than her qualifications. This caused them to employ her despite having only an SSCE certificate.
Recall that last week, Moniepoint CEO revealed that the company was finding it difficult to fill its 500 vacant positions. He argued that most Nigerians were unqualified following a massive value change in the country. He stressed that Nigerians now focus on things like Hookup, Yahoo, and other items.
However, he later clarified that he was referring to mid-level roles.
Nevertheless, the statement has continued attracting backlash, while exposing the pay structure of several organizations. So far, netizens have debated and compared the pay structures of other firms like Opay, and Dangote.
Former BBN winner Phyna, while reacting to the statement, blamed the so-called lack of qualification on Nigeria.
She argued that most companies do not pay enough money, compared to what people earn on social media platforms. She emphasized that fooling on social media usually earns people more money in a day than they would get from companies in a month.
The Big Brother Naija winner also noted that if the country improves, she is willing to stop fooling online. She stated that she would dust her certificate and enter the labour market to work.
