Nigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has said he has not decided which presidential candidate to support in the 2027 election, while making it clear that he would not support the All Progressives Congress.
Davido made this known during a post-election interview on Monday, August 18, 2026, days after his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, secured re-election in the state governorship election.
Davido separates his position from uncle’s
The singer was asked about his political position after previously suggesting that he and his family were not supporting any presidential candidate.
Davido clarified that he may have spoken for himself and his family when he used the word “we”, noting that his uncle had already declared his support for President Bola Tinubu.
“My uncle came out immediately he won, he came out to declare his support for Tinubu. But as for me, I’m not compelled to support anybody,” Davido said.
He explained that his political choices had differed at various times, recalling that he previously supported former Vice President Atiku Abubakar when he contested under the Peoples Democratic Party.
‘It’s sad, not going to be APC’
Although Davido said he had not settled on a preferred presidential candidate for 2027, he ruled out the APC when pressed on his options.
“It’s sad, not going to be APC, I’ll say that one,” the singer said.
His response elicited a playful reaction from the interviewer, after which Davido stressed that Nigerians should be free to make their own political decisions.
“Everybody should have their own, you know, choice, to be honest,” he added.
Singer recalls previous political involvement
Davido also recalled his previous involvement in Nigerian politics, noting that he had supported different political figures at different times.
He said his political position ahead of the 2027 election would not necessarily mirror that of his uncle, who publicly endorsed Tinubu following his re-election as Osun governor.
The singer’s comments come as political activities begin to intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with political parties and prominent Nigerians increasingly taking positions on potential candidates.
For now, Davido has maintained that he has yet to identify a presidential candidate he is willing to publicly support, although he has ruled out voting for the APC.
