Nigeriaโs television broadcasting sector is set for a major transformation as the Federal Government unveiled the official completion of the countryโs transition from analogue to digital broadcasting.
The long-delayed Digital Switch Over (DSO) project which is now ready for nationwide rollout following a renewed partnership between the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT).
According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, he stated that the upgraded DSO framework will leverage satellite broadcasting technology powered by NIGCOMSAT. A move expected to improve signal quality and expand access to digital television services across the country.
โWe now have an upgraded DSO framework that leverages satellite broadcasting powered by NIGCOMSAT technology.โ He wrote.
He further expressed that the new digital broadcasting platform is scheduled for official commissioning on June 17, 2026.
While describing the launching as an alignment with the administration of Bola Tinubu under the Renewed Hope Agenda. Marking a significant milestone in Nigeriaโs broadcasting reform efforts and aimed at modernizing key sectors of the economy.
The Digital Switch Over project which has faced multiple delays over the years. But the upcoming launch signals describes as a โnew dawnโ for Nigeriaโs broadcasting landscape.
An agenda set to create a more competitive broadcasting environment, giving advertisers and media operators access to more accurate audience insights to guide programming and investment decisions.
While expanding content choices and improving overall television viewing experiences nationwide for the viewers.
