Millions of Nigerian businesses face possible data exposure following CAC hack

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has witnessed a cybersecurity incident which could likely expose data of millions of Nigerian businesses.

The CAC announced on April 15 that it is currently reviewing a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to aspects of its information system.

The Commission revealed that it promptly activated its response protocols and is now working with the NITDA. They added that other government agencies have been involved to assess the scope and impact.

Amid this, the CAC stated that appropriate containment measures have been implemented alongside additional safeguards added.

“While the review is ongoing, stakeholders are advised to monitor their records on the CAC portal, update login credentials, and remain cautious of unsolicited communications,” the Commission stressed.

Notably, the CAC incident represents the latest in the wave of cybersecurity attacks targeting Nigerian organizations. Over the past month, several reports have alleged breaches of multiple Nigerian financial institutions including Sterling Bank, Remita, and others. The CBN and other regulators have ordered investigations in response to the rising issues.

Nevertheless, the latest exploit poses a major concern as people are now wondering which organization may be the next victim.
