NANS blames Sowore’s Take-It-Back Movement of provocation at Ibadan Protest

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has blamed the Take-It-Back Movement linked to AAC 2027 Presidential Candidate Omoyele Sowore for provocation at the Ibadan Protest.

NANS President Akinteye Babatunde Afeez revealed that elements of the Take-It-Back Movement aggressively approached members of the delegation. He stated that the aggressive approach follows accusations that NANS did not join their protest.

Akinteye stated that his team was en route Oriire Local Government when they were provoked by the protesters.

Per the statement;

En route to Oriire Local Government, we made a stop at a Conoil Filling Station in Bodija. While refueling more than 40 vehicles in my entourage, I observed a group of unruly individuals who, without provocation, aggressively approached members of our delegation, apparently because we did not join their protest.

The NANS President said he initially urged his delegation to ignore, until they faced a mob attack.

“However, before I could turn my back, a mob came at us, and in a fierce manner, the Aluta Forces on the ground repelled them. It was at that point that I realized that these unruly individuals were members of the “Take It Back Movement.” Akinteye stated.

The NANS President stressed that any attempt to provoke comrades will be met with fierce resistance. He added that while they are brotherly to all organizations, they will not tolerate any attack.

Meanwhile, he disclosed that the movement to Oriire followed an earlier participation in a peaceful protest alongside the National Union of Teachers(NUT) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) chapters of Oyo State, without any form of fracas.

Consequently, he urged security agencies to investigate the activities of the Take-It-Back Movement. “Individuals should not be allowed to cause public disorder under the guise of activism,” he added.

The NANS President’s statement followed allegations from Sowore that the student association disrupted protests in Ibadan. He alleged that the Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the President’s son Seyi Tinubu mobilized NANS elements to attack his Take-It-Back Movement activists.
