Nigerian woman gets over N500,000 donation after requesting N1,300 transport fare online

A Nigerian woman identified as Mum Ire (@bidex31) has emerged as the latest beneficiary of social media goodwill after securing over N500,000 in donations following a public outcry for help.

On May 31, Mum Ire publicly requested N1,300 on X to use as transport fare to her workplace on June 1. Attached to the tweet was her Opay account number and a statement describing the tweet as her last for the night over lack of internet data subscription.

However, the tweet went viral drawing Nigerians’ sympathy in droves and leading to massive donations.

Mum Ire revealed in a post made earlier today that she had received over N500,000 in overall donations. She stated that her Opay had stopped receiving money as it reached a N500K credit threshold. This pushed her to drop details to her accounts in other banks.

Interestingly, the grass to grace story has already drawn significant appeal and applause among Nigerians.

Meanwhile, some Nigerians have expressed indifference to the news, describing it as pro-woman.

One X user, @mbilitechi opined that the support highlights the increasing bias men face, when dealing with similar situations.

He stated in his tweet that;

“First of all I want to congratulate this lady for people turning up for her.. just same yesterday I was complaining about my rent ..and I posted my account it was a sin before all..watin man do man”
