Cubana Chief Priest faces backlash after losing APC senatorial primary election

Popular Nigerian businessman and socialite, Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has stirred reactions online after publicly addressing his loss in the APC senatorial primary election.

In a livestream video, Pascal allegedly dismissed critics while openly boasting about his wealth, asserting that his financial status remains unaffected despite the political setback.

His remarks sparked widespread reactions online, with many internet users questioning his sensitivity and capacity to serve as senator representing Orsu, Orlu, and Oru in the Orlu (Imo West) Senatorial District of Imo State.

Cubana response appeared to backfire, drawing fierce criticism from Nigerians who described his comments as insensitive, entitled, and reflective of money-driven politics.
Many users also questioned his preparedness and competence for public office, stressing that effective leadership requires governance capability rather than celebrity status or financial influence.

A user wrote:

“Inferiority complex is a bastard. It will make a man spend energy you don’t have to prove a point that is not needed, to impress people that don’t care. A million videos cosplaying as a powerful person or displaying wealth will never cure a man who is empty and hollow inside.”

Another user stated:

“All his money is for his pocket. You cannot want to lead our people with such a mindset, where money is your primary source of bragging rights. Nobody sends you and your money in Ala Igbo, where every tribesman is a hustler by default. It’s not only Igbo people that dragged him, by the way.”
However, the online backlash has also sparked a broader debate about ethnicity and accountability.

One user tweeted:

“Igbo people dragged Cubana Chief Priest to the extent the man is now gifting himself an SUV and posting endless videos trying to convince the world he isn’t hurt. No ethnic group in Nigeria holds its own accountable and humbles excesses quite like Igbo people.”
